Christmas in August--a Marc Davis greeting
This is one of my Comic Con purchases: one of many Christmas cards designed by the superlative Marc Davis (with a self-caricature).
I'm not sure when this was done--how young would he have been to have looked as slim as he's depicted here? It's a wonderful drawing and I was glad to find it at the Van Eaton Galleries booth.

THAT...is too cool! Amazing purchase, thanks for sharing this!
That's so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh...Oh my gosh...How did you find that. I am way jealous. And Yeah I was just going to turn into Imagineering to see what that show was. Its driving me crazy that they are advertising it on the street.
Well, since the card is from Marc and not for Marc and Alice, I'd venture to say it's from before they were married.
I don't know their wedding date, but I believe she started working at WED/WDI before the New York World's Fair ... and that she was married to Marc two or three years before getting hired by Walt.
It's a nice drawing ... thanks for sharing your treasures -- both the art you collect and your own sketches.
You're very talented!!
Hey Jenny - Great post. Was the card done in a combination of pencil (blaisdell?) and ink? I wondered too if it was addressed and/or had a message written. Very interesting. I'm looking forward to your next post!
Marc Davis and Alice Estes were married in 1956. My guess is that this dates from the late 1940s, after he started teaching Advanced Drawing at Chouinard.
