My whole life I have always been told that he was driving back from Lake Tahoe where he obviously had been over drinking and gambling too much. He had driven off a cliff and died instantly. Thanks for clearing up the truth. I am so happy to see his legacy live on. My daughter and I were just going through all of his old work in old books we found in a box my mom gave us today. Scott W. You always have such a charming style of writing about these artists and history, and that's wonderful you had a chance to talk with them when you did :) The way you describe it reminds me a lot about how my early research and interviewing experiences went--my first interview I was 18 too, and interviewed Ward Kimball's granddaughter, who happened to be my TA in a university biology class. When I think back on that, I realize I didn't have the experience to appreciate the adult nuances of what she was recounting about her grandfather's life either, but I'm still glad I had the opportunity to chat, 10 years back.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02678940619049764599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19218379.post-31397137678927468402018-05-09T10:56:26.911-07:002018-05-09T10:56:26.911-07:00Thanks for a great Fred Moore post! She was the first female hired by Disney Studios from the new Disney Character Animation Program at CalArts. She had a full scholarship courtesy Walt's widow, Lillian Disney. She was known for her meticulous work and eye for design and became the first full credited female effects animator in Disney history. The fact is, at one time in the seventies, she was the ONLY female animator working at the Walt Disney Studios feature unit.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19218379.post-45692348927671713842017-12-18T17:31:25.789-08:002017-12-18T17:31:25.789-08:00Endearing and exciting to read your article while ...Endearing and exciting to read your article while I was researching my Walt Disney Animation Kit, and which I did just put up on Ebay (12/15/17). I appreciate your time and the other bloggers who in writing about the importance of it helped me figure out what I had and how precious it is. I am excited and regretful to see it sell but I know there are others who will cherish it more than I as it is a couple years before my time(and yours.) As such, if you or a true lover of it and are interested it or the extra, "Tips on Animation" 15 page book that came with it (Your pictures here only show 8 pgs,) feel free to send me a message by asking a question on the Ebay listing itself to keep it on the up and up and I'll gladly work it out for you so you do not miss this one like your last. Also, Jeffery Pepper @Hyperion Blog-spot was also a great help so I sent him a very similar comment on his site. Thank You Again for your time and your help, Scott PS If parts of this comment are inappropriate, please by all means delete or do not publish it...at least you know. The face in particular evokes the suburban Goofy, the Goofy with the orange Freddy Moore-designed son, and the Goofy who went to the same orthodontist as Bugs Bunny.

Yeah this look is based on the look of Goofy that was being used in the 1950's, especially with the face mask that goes above the eyes rather than below them. They continued using this look in a few places later on such as in the 1983 "Mickey's Christmas Carol" and the Goof Troop TV series. I always thought of this as the current look of the character personally and never questioned it's need though obviously it wasn't to last (though I think he still appears this way as the performing characters at the theme parks).Chris Sobieniakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838106041175506925noreply@blogger.com
